UK to be the Country of Honour at Moscow's non/fictio№ Book Fair

This year the United Kingdom will be the Country of Honour at Moscow's non/fictioBook Fair for the first time in its history. Visitors to the Fair will be able to attend a program of literary events curated by the British Council – the organisation that promotes cooperation in the area of education and culture between the UK and other countries including Russia.

Leading British authors will discuss adult fiction, non-fiction, children's literature and education and translation. Novelists, historians, film and theatre scriptwriters, translators and illustrators will be part of the line-up, which includes prominent figures whose names will be announced during the count-down to the Fair.

A delegation of a dozen bookpublishers and literary agents from the UK will also participate in a professional programme at the Fair, where they will meet Russian colleagues to exchange experience and knowledge and establish closer co-operation. This has been made possible thanks to The Publishers Association and the Department for International Trade.

A 120m2 UK Pavilion will be located at the centre of the Fair on the second floor of Moscow's Central House of Artists. The Pavilion will host publisher meetings and small public events; visitors will be able to buy books from featured authors, to become better acquainted with Shakespeare’s work through audio and video installations and also to contribute to a live print installation based on Shakespeare’s verse as part of a specially-commissioned interactive project from Henningham Family Press and the British Higher School of Design.

There will be special events throughout the fair including readings, performances, seminars for publishers, signing sessions and receptions. One of the key events of the UK programme will be the announcement and award of the All-Russia English-Russian literary translation contest.

The participation of the United Kingdom as Country of Honour at the non/fictio№ Book Fair is the culmination of the year-long programme of the UK-Russia Year of Language and Literature 2016for which the British Council gratefully acknowledges the support of BP as Founder Sponsor.
