Based on concepts by the project’s director, Ekaterina Galanova, the most significant moments in Russian history came to life before spectators’ eyes on the walls of a building that both witnessed and play a part in these events, the Hermitage.
French company Cosmo AV, the people behind the laser show at the closing ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, joined their Saint Petersburg counterparts to put on a display made up of 12 parts displaying the museum’s history, tightly intertwined with the history of the city and country. In addition to the video show’s historical images, reproductions of 170 paintings and watercolors held at the Hermitage were displayed. The video reel was accompanied by a score composed of fragments of musical productions from various eras, as well as poems by Anna Akhmatova, Marina Tsvetaeva, and Alexander Blok.
