The leaders of the BRICS countries sympathize with the people hurt in the terrorist attacks in Paris effective fight against the terrorist threat is only possible by uniting efforts, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"We understand very well that the only way to deal with the threat of terrorism and help missions of people who have lost their homes is by uniting the efforts of the entire global community. As to the threat of terrorism, we have all seen the horror that has recently occurred in Paris. We sympathize with the people who have been hurt," Putin said at an informal meeting between the leaders of the BRICS countries held in Antalya, Turkey, on Sunday.

"However, we always support the unification of efforts to effectively fight the threat of terrorism," he said.

The Russian president said this needs to be done in strict accordance with the UN Charter while respecting the international norms and the sovereign rights and lawful interests of every country. "These basic principles were reflected in the Ufa BRICS Declaration, which was adopted this year," Putin said.
