Russian Arms Expo awaits Indian guests

More than 500 companies - major Russian and foreign arms producers - are expected to display latest developments at the FSE Nizhny Tagil Institute of Metal Testing (NTITM).

This is the seventh such exhibition, a milestone this year. Ten years ago, the Russian government set up an exhibition centre for military equipment at the NTITM. Seventeen major exhibitions have since been staged, including "Russian Defence Expo," the "UralMetalExpo" and the "Magistral" transport forum. More than half a million people from 55 countries attended. Major contracts have been agreed, including one between India's Defence Ministry and the Uralvagonzavod corporation for Russia to supply India with more than 300 T-90S tanks.

The Nizhniy Tagil exhibition centre's popularity is explained by its unique display facilities. A site measuring 1.5 by 52 km, a special course for combat equipment and highly accurate measuring systems make it possible to show sophisticated equipment in action. Tanks and artillery fire at targets before the public's eyes, and emergency services extinguish blazing fires in seconds. Displays are relayed in real time on the internet. "We're always pleased to see guests like delegations from India, China, the United Arab Emirates," says NTITM's General Director Valeriy Rudenko, adding, "We have long-standing contacts with these countries."
