On 5 September the Polytechnic Museum on Ilinsky Shosse in cooperation with NPF GAZFOND and Ingosstrakh-Exclusive will launch the vintage-car rally known as the Moscow Region Classic. This will be the 5th Moscow Region Classic and this year it will have a new status as Stage 1 of the Russian Cup in vintage-car competition
Traditionally, famous collectors of old cars take part in this competition. For instance, Evgeny Yaroslavsky, a co-director of the Vimm-Bill-Dan company; Senator Vitaly Bogdanov, chairman of the Classic Cars Committee of the Russian Automobile Federation; Andrei Pankovsky, first deputy director of the DSK-1 construction company; film director Yuri Grymov and actor Daniil Strakhov. Other members of the Russian show business elite invited to the event include Yegor Konchalovsky and Lyubov Tolkalina, Dmitry Pevtsov and Olga Drozdova, Viktoria Tolstoganova, Elena Korikova and Artyom Tkachenko.
Guests and fans will be able to feast their eyes on such unique old cars as a Rolls Royce Phantom 5 (1965), an Austin-Healey (1960), a Cord 810 with an airplane motor once driven by the famous Soviet test pilot Valery Chkalov himself, a BMW convertible coupe (1937), a Chevrolet Corvette (1960), the favorite car of the Wehrmacht's high command a Mercedes Benz 320 B1 (1936), a Packard and a Cadillac, known to most from the Hollywood gangster films of the 1930s.
"We decided to support the Moscow Region Classic rally because we feel that what we do has a lot in common with the work of the Rally Club of Classic Cars," said NPF GAZFOND vice president Dmitry Konshin. "The efforts of the Rally Club are a vivid example of how one can love and preserve one's history by extending the life of old cars. The Moscow Region Classic is known for the complexity of its race. First the judges give the pilots a chance to demonstrate their driving class on the slalom course then they give them 150 kilometers (93 miles) of a very involved route.
