The Peterhof estate outside St. Petersburg closed its fountain season with a magnificent show featuring laser special effects and fireworks. The colorful display, called Fontaniana, marked the 305th anniversary of the complex.
A light show and ballet set to the music of Maurice Ravel’s “Bolero,” made up the first part of the program. The second was dedicated to the anniversary of Peterhof’s construction. The history of the estate was displayed in lights on the façade of the Grand Palace itself.
Peterhof was founded by Peter the Great in 1714 and was formally opened in August 1723. The estate’s fountains and water cascades, which are the world’s largest, were created in the mid-1720s.
