Lullabies of the world, unite

Russian cartoon designer Elizaveta Skvortsova has given birth to a project that takes everyone back to childhood. “Lullabies of the world” takes an online collection of songs to help children sleep and animates them.

The rhymes, taken from countries on all continents and handed down from one generation to another, are sung in the original language and transformed into cartoons, telling a story with the help of pictures and references to life in the nation of origin. The cartoons are then published on the Web.

“Our work is for everyone, but especially for children,” said Skvortsova, who has worked on the project with director and producer Arsen Gottlieb. Since 2006, 60 lullabies have been animated, including rhymes from countries ranging from Japan to Sweden, from Armenia to Canada to France. The first lullaby on the list is, of course, Russian.
