Born in Kazan and educated in St. Petersburg, Nikolai Fechin (1881-1955) spent his later years painting in the American West and living in Taos, New Mexico. Nikolai Fechin was a disciple of Ilya Repin. He is mostly famous for his impressionistic portraits, full of color and attractive dynamism. The life and creative work of Fechin were divided between Russia and the United States during a time of great historic upheaval, but in spite of the circumstances, the artist was popular and well-known in both countries.
