FSB reports criminal case on collection of info about personal life of high-ranking officials

The Federal Security Service (FSB) has exposed a group consisting of a former security officer and a private detective who illegally collected and spread information about the private life of high-ranking officials.

"The FSB together with the Moscow main department of the Interior Ministry stopped the activities of former security officer A. Smirnov and private detective A. Mikhailenko who had engaged in the illegal collection (tapping of telephone conversation, surveillance etc) and dissemination of information about the private life of several persons holding high government posts," Interfax was told at the FSB PR center on Monday.

Searches were conducted at the homes and offices of Smirnov and Mikhailenko and the premises of Belgan private security firm that had rendered active assistance to the two suspects in relaiton to a criminal case of intruding in private life and violating the secrecy of correspondence and telephone conversations.

"Ammunition to firearms in illegal possession was discovered and confiscated during the search at Belgan private security firm," the FSB PR center said.
