FSB reports cracking down on ring smuggling synthetic drugs to Russia from China

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported the completion of a multi-stage operation to crack down on an international criminal group smuggling major caches of synthetic drugs from China to Russia.

"Measures that have been taken have resulted in identifying the leader and active members of the organized criminal group and determining the role each of them played in the group, which has operated for about two years. Twenty-four people have been criminally prosecuted, and investigative bodies have opened and are investigating 20 criminal cases," the FSB public relations center told Interfax on Wednesday.

Synthetic drugs from China were sold wholesale through the Internet to buyers in various regions of Russia, who made smoking mixtures of them for their retail distribution, it said.
