Police analyzing appeal on major Russian social network's role in promoting pedophilia

The Russian Interior Ministry will consider an appeal by the anti-pedophile activist group Head Hunters demanding that some action be taken against the distribution of child porn through the leading Russian social network VKontakte and its role in helping child molesters target their victims.

"The Interior Ministry has received a relevant appeal, and it will be considered in line with the law," the Interior Ministry told Interfax on Wednesday.

"Any conclusions could be discussed only after this appeal is thoroughly analyzed," it said.

A number of media outlets reported earlier that the authorities could shut down VKontakte after Head Hunters demanded that access to it be restricted.
