APEC Ministers to launch environmental campaign

The APEC ministers have decided to make environmental protection one of their top priorities, it was announced during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Environment held in Khabarovsk on July 16-18. The preservation of bio-diversity,  rational use of natural and water resources and their protection were all listed among areas of concern during the meeting. At the end of the session the ministers adopted an agreement on environmental protection.

The issue was at the top of agenda at the APEC ministerial meeting and had previously been the main focus at the RIO+20 summit on sustainable environmental development organized by United Nations. The APEC countries have agreed to collaborate on environmental issues in accordance with UN directives.
