Syrian ambassador in Moscow denies reports on Assad's wife arrival in Russia

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's wife did not come to Russia and is together with her husband in Damascus now, Syrian Ambassador to Russia Riyad Haddad said.

"This is absolutely untrue information. Mr. President's wife has not come to Moscow," Haddad told Interfax on Thursday in commenting on media reports claiming the opposite.

"[Assad] is still together with his family in Damascus," the diplomat said.

The Guardian reported earlier on Thursday that the British-born wife of the Syrian leader, Asma al-Assad, had fled to Russia. The newspaper did not name sources from which it obtained this information.
