The opposition has agreed to nominate a common candidate in the Kaliningrad mayoral election on October 14, Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov told Interfax on Monday.
"I returned from Kaliningrad yesterday upon meetings with activists of local opposition movements. It was decided to nominate member of a local organization of the Russian Communist Party Yuri Galanin as the opposition candidate for the city mayor," he said.
The Communist Party, A Just Russia, Left Front, environmental and patriotic organizations signed the deal, Udaltsov said.
He noted that the election campaign in Kaliningrad would start in two days.
"Shortly before the voting day, we will send an opposition crew from Moscow to Kaliningrad. We are holding negotiations to the effect. I think that Galanin has a real chance to become the mayor," he noted.
