The defense lawyers for ex-head of the defunct oil company Yukos Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his business partner Platon Lebedev have received the Supreme Court letter which confirms that an oversight inquiry will be conducted into the sentence passed on their clients.
"We have officially received Supreme Court Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev's order to start an oversight inquiry into the sentences, handed down to Khodorkovsky and Lebedev," Lebedev's defense lawyer Vladimir Krasnov told Interfax on Tuesday.
Lebedev has referred this ruling to the Moscow City Court presidium, which is to set a date for the hearings of the complaint.
The Supreme Court earlier officially confirmed that its chairman had ordered a probe into Khodorkovsky's and Lebedev's complaints.
"Supreme Court Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev examined Khodorkovsky's and Lebedev's complaints, annulled a Supreme Court judge's decision to reject them, and started an oversight inquiry," Supreme Court spokesman Pavel Odintsov told Interfax.
"The complaint and the criminal case have been passed over to the Moscow City Court presidium," he said.
