Navalny sees Pussy Riot trial as reminiscent of dark ages

Opposition blogger Alexei Navalny has described the trial of the Pussy Riot punk trio as an event typical of the dark ages and said the girls must not be held in jail.

"All this is reminiscent of the dark ages. They must not be held in jail for committing a petty hooliganism offence, whatever they have done," he told reporters.

The Pussy Riot trial is outside the realm of law, he also said.

Reports said earlier that Navalny has arrived the Investigative Committee headquarters, where criminal charges may be brought against him in the probe over asset losses at the state-owned Kirovles timber company.

Navalny told the media that he has received a summons for a second day running.

"They refused to bring charges against me yesterday. I don't know what will happen here today," he told journalists.
