The Pussy Riot punk group singers said they cannot attend the trial.
One of them, Maria Alyokhina, requested that the trial be suspended. "I cannot attend the hearings. We did not sleep and we were not given any food to eat. It's torture," Alyokhina said. Judge Marina Syrova said in turn that, "the medical documents provided by the prison administration say the defendants are fit to attend the trial," and she proposed starting questioning another defendant.
The suspects' defense lawyer Violetta Volkova said a fresh request would be filed for replacing the judge. The judge announced after the defense lawyer's statement, that the hearings would be suspended for a lunch and sleep break.
