Russia's Lashmanova and Kirdyapkin captured two Olympic gold in race walk

Russia's Elena Lashmanova won Olympic gold in the women's 20km race walk Saturday, beating the world record of her fellow Russian Vera Sokolova in the process.

Lashmanova finished in 1 hour 25 minutes 2 seconds, ahead of another Russian from the same region of Mordovia, Olga Kaniskina, who took silver after finishing seven seconds behind her.

Meanwhile, Sergey Kirdyapkin of Russia strolled to Olympic gold in the men's 50km walk earlier on the same day. Kirdyapkin, a two-time world champion, posted an Olympic record time of three hours, 55 minutes and 59 seconds.
