Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and UN Special Representative for Afghanistan Jan Kubis discussed an upcoming transfer of security functions from the international forces to the authorities in Afghanistan at a meeting on Tuesday.
"During the meeting, the sides discussed the situation in Afghanistan, including in light of the continuing downsizing of foreign military contingents in this country, as well as the course of the national reconciliation process and an upcoming transfer of responsibility for security from the International Security Assistance Force to Afghan security structures," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website.
"The sides also exchanged opinions on regional cooperation in the Afghan settlement efforts, as well as the fight against terrorist and drug threats with a focus on the UN's place and role in these processes," the ministry said.
