The forecast for the London Olympic games has come true generally, said President of the Russian Olympic Committee Alexander Zhukov.
"The gold medals trophy was what we had been expecting and the overall list of medal wins is even longer than planned," he said at a press conference at Interfax on Wednesday. Ahead of the London Olympics, sports officials said the Russian team would win 25 gold medals. The ultimate result was 24, he said.
Zhukov said that a little bit disappointing beginning and low spirits negatively influenced the athletes. "The general atmosphere and support are very important. The first week of the Games was not the right time for Russia. But one should not yield to setbacks, as this discourages the athletes," he said.
