Moscow requests Bout's case files for judicial recognition of verdict

The Russian Justice Ministry has asked the U.S. side to present documents needed for the judicial recognition of the offenses committed by Russian businessman Viktor Bout, who was sentenced to 25 years in prison by a U.S. court, the ministry's press service reports.

"Bout's wife petitioned the Justice Ministry for his extradition from the United States to continue serving his sentence Russia," the report says.

The ministry filed a request with the U.S. Justice Department through Russian diplomatic channels for "documents stipulated by Article 6 of the Convention on the Extradition of Convicts".

"So far, there has been no answer," the report says.

The papers, if they arrive, will be sent "to a competent Russian court for subsequent hearings on the recognition of Bout's verdict and its implementation on the Russian territory," the press service said.
