Shoigu says is ready to work with Chirikova if she is elected mayor of Khimki

The Moscow region's Governor Sergei Shoigu said he is ready to work with environmentalist Yevgeniya Chirikova if she is elected mayor of Khimki and works productively.

"We will work with anyone who will be elected by the people, even if the people elect a circus horse. The main thing is that the one elected should work," Shoigu said in an interview with Kommersant responding to a question as to whether he will be able to work with Chirikova if she is elected mayor of Khimki.

Shoigu also said environmental issues should not be confused with politics.

"Every part of the forest is, of course, valuable. However, we should not make big politics out of every tree," he said.

Shoigu said the Moscow region's administration will continue selling forest sites for some types of construction.

"Environmental activists are right: it's a recreation zone, which means that the land here can only be used for individual construction or for the construction of recreation houses and tourist facilities. This means that this territory can only be sold for this type of construction, and we will sell it because we need to get money for resolving social issues from someone. We don't have oil and gas," he said.
