Army conscription quota won't be raised

The Russian Defense Ministry is not planning to increase the conscription quota in autumn 2012 by 50,000 people.

"The number of persons assigned for conscription to military service in autumn 2012 will not differ significantly from the indicators of the springtime conscription campaign," says a report of the Defense Ministry press service received by Interfax-AVN on Monday.

"Thus the Defense Ministry refuted media reports of planning to increase the conscription quota by 50,000 people," the report says.

"Routine work is under to prepare the call-up of young people in autumn 2012," the ministry says.

Last spring 155,570 young people were called up for service.
