Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov opened a joint conference of the APEC foreign and trade ministers on Wednesday in the run-up to the organization's 20th summit.
Lavrov said the participants in the meeting would complete the drafting of a declaration of the APEC leaders and adopt a joint statement that the ministers would make.
During its APEC chairmanship, Russia has proposed focusing efforts on trade and investment liberalization, regional economic integration, the adjustment of transportation and logistics systems, food security, and cooperation to promote innovation growth, Lavrov said.
"About a hundred sessions have been held on these issues, including a ministerial conference, a session of senior officials of [APEC] working groups, and also seminars and conferences," he said.
Talking about the meeting's agenda, Lavrov proposed that the participants consider food security, preparedness for emergencies, problems of the WTO Doha Round and development of multilateral trade on Wednesday. The parties will also discuss the building of reliable transport and logistics chains and active interaction toward innovation growth on Thursday.
