Mikhail Prokhorov, informal leader and founder of the party Civil Platform, has decided to go back to the traditional party format, giving up the "500 lawyers" format, Kommersant has reported.
"The '500 lawyers' format has changed. The party will become more classical, but people who don't want to become members of the party can stay its supporters and will also have the right to participate in the party's life," a source in the party told the paper.
The new structure of the party will be presented at the party's congress in October, the source said. The new political council will also be elected at the congress.
The number of the party's members will be unlimited and its political council will comprise prominent people, the source said.
Prokhorov told Kommersant all legal procedures associated with the party's registration in the regions will be completed in the next two weeks and the party's congress will be held in late October.
According to members of the party, some 30 of the 42 divisions of the party have been registered and all divisions will have been registered by September 20.
Kommersant has also learned that Civil Platform will not be nominating its candidates in the fall regional and municipal elections, but may back the most prominent candidates.
