St. Pete to host concert in support for Pussy Riot on Sunday

A concert in support for the three members of the Pussy Riot punk band who were recently sentenced to 2 years in prison for disorderly conduct in a church will take place in St. Petersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9.

Olga Kurnosova, one of the concert organizers, told Interfax that attempts by officials from the city prosecutor's office to find irregularities in the operations of Glavklub, where the concert is to take place, proved to be futile. "Noise that was made promptly moderated their ardor, and therefore we really hope that everything will pass as we plan," she said.

Tickets are being sold actively, and quite a significant number of people are expected to attend the event, Kurnosova said. The tickets are sold at 500 rubles, and all the money will be passed to the convicted Pussy Riot members and their families, she said.

Performing at the concert should be the rock bands DDT, Televizor, PTVP, Electric Partisans, and Razniye Lyudi (Different People), Gleb Samoilov, and others. Prominent rock singer Boris Grebenshchikov was also invited to take part in the concert, but he declined the proposal.
