A visitor from St. Petersburg has poured ink on an icon in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, Interfax was told at the Moscow city police.
"A man poured ink on an icon in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior at about noon today. He was detained," a press officer said.
The detainee claimed that he had a record of mental disturbances.
Meanwhile, an Interfax source in law enforcement has told Interfax that the man has been identified as Yury Piotrovsky, 62, born in St. Petersburg and currently living in Germany.
The source said that the man cannot coherently describe the motives for his behavior saying only that it was a protest action against the Russian Orthodox Church and its stance in the Pussy Riot case.
He is currently being interrogated.
