Medvedev, Zuckerberg discuss social networks' impact on global politics

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and the founder of the Facebook social network, Mark Zuckerberg, have discussed the company's broader presence on the Russian market.

"Medvedev and Zuckerberg have discussed Facebook's possible presence in Russia not only as a social network, but also as a company that deals with the most advanced products. They have also discussed Skolkovo as a place where startups could be of mutual interest," the prime minister's press secretary, Natalya Timakova, told reporters after the talks.

The discussion also covered social networks' prospects and their impact on the world, including politics, she said.

"Dmitry Medvedev joked whether he got it right that Barack Obama will apparently win, since he has far more followers than Mitt Romney," Timakova also said.

Zuckerberg confessed that when he and his friends were devising Facebook, they could not have imagined it would become a political factor, she said.
