Central Elections Commission orders checks into alleged election abuses

Сentral Election Commission Chairman Vladimir Churov has ordered checks to be conducted into alleged abuses in the Barnaul legislative elections.

"After a telephone call was received from a candidate in the Barnaul legislative elections, Churov ordered checks into reported election abuses to be conducted by the local elections commission, the Honest Elections monitoring group and law enforcement agencies," the Central Election Commission said on its website on Sunday.

The Golos voters' association, too, reported election abuses in Barnaul earlier.

Vladimir Ryzhkov, a co-chairman of the Republican Party of Russia - People\'s Freedom Party (RPR-PARNAS) said that election monitors are denied access to voter lists at many of the polling stations and that the so-called carousel voting, where busloads of voters are driven around to cast ballots multiple times, were reported .

Ryzhkov said he had called Churov, who instructed the local election commissions not to raise obstacles to monitors' work.
