Surkov wants Russia, U.S. to jointly support cooperative projects

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Vladislav Surkov has asked the Russian and U.S. business communities to select several joint projects to be supported by the Russian-U.S. Presidential Commission's innovation group.

"It seems to me that it would be highly important to follow two paths: firstly, it is certainly institutional reforms, discussions on problems in the financial structure and the judicial system, and, secondly, it is maintenance and support of very concrete individual cooperative projects between our companies, universities, etc," Surkov said at a session of the innovation group, which he co-chairs.

"I would suggest selecting several joint projects, which certainly exist in relations between America and Russia. They will receive support both from the Russian and American sides," he said.

Hopefully, the innovation group will be able to speed up its work, Surkov said.

"I would like very much to see a practical direction for this working group," he said.

U.S. Under Secretary of State Robert Hormats said that his country would like to support these highly promising projects.

Hormats, who co-chairs the working group together with Surkov, said he was willing to find as many avenues for cooperation as possible.
