U.S., Italian experts to fly Open Skies mission over Russia

Observers from the United States and Italy will fly an inspection mission aboard the OS-136B plane over Russia under the Open Skies Treaty, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement received by Interfax-AVN.

"A joint crew of experts from the U.S. and Italy will fly an observation mission over Russia aboard a OS-135B aircraft between Nov. 6 and 10 under the Open Skies Treaty," it said.

The OS-135B is not intended to carry weapons, it also said.

"During the flight Russian specialists will oversee the use of observation equipment by American and Italian experts to ensure that the mission strictly complies with the obligations assumed under the treaty," the Defense Ministry said.
