U.S. chooses more reasonable president, said Karaganov

Barack Obama's election victory is rooted in his luck and maturity of the U.S. people, President of the Foreign and Defense Policy Council at the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute for the USA and Canada Studies Sergei Karaganov told Interfax.

"I think Obama's victory is a miracle. This victory shows that he is a lucky man and that the Americans are a mature people. In spite of all their problems, they chose a reasonable man, more reasonable, for president," he said.

The future of Russia-U.S. relations depends on Moscow to a large extent, the expert said. "A lot will depend on Russia. Pressure may mount if they see Russia as a weakening country. If not, I think we will have cool-headed, practical cooperation," Karaganov said.

CNN aired a preliminary report of Obama's election victory: he had garnered over 270 electoral votes.
