Russian sailors freed in Nigeria are back home - Embassy

The Russian sailors freed from pirates in Nigeria are back home, Russian Charge D'Affaires in Nigeria Alexander Chernov told Interfax.

"They returned to St. Petersburg a long time ago," he said.

The diplomat said the sailors were transported to Russia last week.

Pirates attacked the tugboat Bourbon Liberty 249, owned by French company Bourbon, in Nigerian territorial waters on October 15. The ship was servicing oil rigs on the shelf of the Nigerian southern coast. The crew - six Russians and one Estonian - was freed on November 1.
