Laws pertaining to espionage, high treason may be adjusted - Peskov

The Kremlin will be monitoring the implementation of Criminal Code amendments related to espionage and high treason and adjustments will be made if necessary, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said after President Vladimir Putin signed the amendments into law on Tuesday.

Peskov recalled that the provisions were discussed at the Monday meeting of the president with members of the Presidential Human Rights and Civil Society Council. "The president really expressed the readiness to scrutinize the law," Peskov said.

"The signing of the bill showed that the president agreed to its endorsement. At the same time, the statement Vladimir Putin made at the Council meeting clearly expressed his readiness to work on this document further and to introduce necessary amendments if the implementation of the law revealed certain problems or aspects limiting rights and freedoms of citizens," the press secretary emphasized.
