United Russia brands Kasyanov traitor for his support to Magnitsky Act

The United Russia party administration has accused ex-Prime Minister, RPR-PARNAS opposition party co-chairman Mikhail Kasyanov of betraying Russian interests.

"RPR-PARNAS co-leader Mikhail Kasyanov has supported the U.S. House of Representatives' endorsement of the Magnitsky Act, thus admitting openly that time-serving interests of certain American politicians are more important to him that interests of his own people," United Russia General Council Presidium Secretary, State Duma Vice-Speaker Sergei Neverov told reporters on Monday.

"Welcome of this decision is a betrayal of Russian interests," he said.

The reaction of Russian society to this act should be uniformly negative, Neverov said. "In particularly, because it may create tensions in bilateral relations," he added.

That will be bad for everyone but "those who deliberately play into the hands of provocateurs who are trying to dictate how Russia should live," he said.
