Russian Defense Minister Gen. of the Army Sergei Shoigu has affirmed the importance of Russian-Chinese cooperation, in particular, in the military-technical sphere, for the provision of regional stability.
"The closer cooperation between our countries is, including military-technical cooperation, the calmer our region will be," Shoigu told
Military Commission of the CPC Central Committee Vice-Chairman Xu Qiliang took the floor at the 17th meeting of the Russian-Chinese Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation.
Shoigu congratulated Xu on the end of the 18th congress of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.
"That was a significant event not only for China but also definitely for us, your neighbors described as strategic partners by our leaders," Shoigu said.
"Our predecessors laid down a foundation for multisided and multifaceted cooperation," he said.
Cooperation develops in engineering and technologies, military education and other spheres, he added.
Xu congratulated Shoigu on his appointment as the Defense Minister on behalf of the Military Commission of the CPC Central Committee.
"Although your visit is brief, it shows that Russia ascribes big significance to defense and military-technical cooperation with China, and China values that much," he said.
Russia-China relations "are on the rise" after the establishment of strategic partnership, Xu said.
"We view relations with Russia as a priority of international military cooperation," he said.
Xu expressed the wish to continue the implementation of the agreements reached by Russian and Chinese political leaders for "bringing bilateral relations to an even higher level."
