Russian warships could be used to evacuate Russian citizens from Gaza

Russian warships will remain deployed in the eastern Mediterranean to evacuate Russian citizens should the conflict between Israel and Palestine worsen, a source in the Russian Navy's Main Command told Interfax-AVN on Friday.

"The Black Sea Fleet's naval task force, including the missile cruiser Moskva, the destroyer Smetlivy, the large landing ships Novocherkassk and Saratov, the tugboat MB-304 and the large oil taker Ivan Bubnov, have received the order to remain in the designated area in the eastern Mediterranean to evacuate Russian citizens from the Gaza Strip should the Palestinian-Israeli conflict worsen," he said.

The crews will continue scheduled combat training and maintain military hardware and weapon systems, he said.
