Damaged rails cause derailment of tank cars carrying oil products in Krasnodar territory

The derailment of tank cars carrying oil products in the Temryuk district of the Krasnodar territory was caused by deliberately damaged rails, a railroad official said.

The derailment occurred due to the fact that unidentified people removed plates connecting rails, the official told Emergency Situations Minister Vlaidmir Puchkov on Saturday.

The derailment caused sparks, which set fire to some of the railcars. Updated information indicates that 17 out of the 69 cars were derailed, and four of them caught fire. The fire has now been extinguished.

Puchkov, who arrived in the Krasnodar territory, supervised the cleanup operation on the spot.
