Russian tourist arrivals in Mexico may grow manifold in case of visa-free travel

Russian tourist arrivals in Mexico may grow significantly in the case of visa-free travel, Russian tour operators told Interfax.

"We have learned that the new Mexican president told reporters after his inauguration that he would not mind a shift to visa-free travel with Russia. If that happens, Russian tourist arrivals in that Latin American country may grow manifold," Pegas Touristik General Director Anna Podgornaya said.

It is already easy to visit Mexico with visa applications filed online, she said.

The Mexican Tourism Ministry estimated Russian tourist arrivals at 50,000 in the first nine months of this year and 42,000 in 2011. Russia ranked second, after Brazil, in terms of growing tourism revenues of Mexico.

Mexico is the most popular exotic destination of Russian tourists booking their trips for the upcoming New Year holidays on the Russian online booking service. The service administration said that the popularity of Mexico might grow even more with the possible cancellation of visas.
