Putin signs law simplifying visa issuance to Sochi Olympics athletes

President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that simplifies the issuance of visas to foreign athletes who will arrive in Russia to participate in the Winter and Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014.

The law, posted on the database of official legal information, allows the visa service, at the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee's request, to issue visas and send them by e-mail to the corresponding diplomatic missions and consular services in Russia.

Concurrently, information will have to be referred to the agency overseeing migration within three days.

This law cuts the time spent on issuing Russian visas and it will help better organize the Sochi Olympic Games.

The relevant bill was passed by the State Duma and upheld by the Federation Council. on Nov. 23.
