Russian Winter Festival

Join us as we take inspiration from Russian celebrations of the festive winter season.

  • Meet Grandfather Frost, Russia’s Santa Claus, and his granddaughter, the Snow Maiden
  • Create and wear your own kokoshnik (lady’s headdress) or Russian gentleman’s winter hat
  • Enjoy lively music performed by Samovar Russian Folk Music Ensemble
  • Listen to enchanting winter tales from Russia, told by storyteller Arianna Ross of Story Tapestries

New this year!

  • Watch Michael Bobbitt, Producing Artistic Director of Adventure Theatre children’s theatre debut a 20-minute one-act play based on traditional Russian stories of Grandfather Frost and the Snow Maiden. After each performance (three on Saturday and two on Sunday), families can meet Grandfather Frost, Russia’s Santa Claus, and his granddaughter the Snow Maiden.

  • See Happenstance Theater actors stroll the estate in character, enacting the old Russian winter customs of mumming and fortunetelling.
  • Gather around as Storyteller Arianna Ross of Story Tapestries shares enchanting winter tales from Russia.
