Russia's Buddhist lamas do not believe in doomsday

There will be no doomsday, a source at the press service of the Ivolginsky Datsan (Buryatia), the seat of the Russian Khambo Lama, told Interfax on Monday.

"There will be no doomsday on Dec. 21," the source said, adding that there was no such notion in Buddhism.

Apocalyptic expectations are based on the misty prophecies of the Maya. Scientists refute them.

Weathermen do not forecast any natural cataclysms for Dec. 21, either.

Maya specialist, archaeologist Ph.D. Yuri Polyukhovich said there was no apocalypse in the Mayan doctrine and Monument 6 from the Tortuguero Maya site in the Mexican state of Tabasco indicated Dec. 21, 2012, as the end of one epoch and the beginning of the new one, the archaeologist said.
