Russia says Middle East peace process increasingly hard to relaunch because current impasse

Russia has expressed anxiety at the stalled efforts to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"The longer the status quo continues, the greater negative effect it will have on prospects for relaunching the negotiation process," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

"The search for a Palestinian-Israeli settlement has remained in a dangerous stalemate for a long time. Attempts in 2012 to establish contacts between the Palestinians and Israelis with the assistance of the Quartet on the Middle East and other interested parties have failed to produce positive results. The situation has been made worse by the Israeli settlement activity and acute exacerbations of the military and political situation, one good example of which was the recent confrontation between Israel and Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip with death tolls on both sides that included innocent civilians," the statement said.
