The family of slain journalist Anna Politkovskaya are asking for a criminal case against former Moscow police officer Dmitry Pavlyuchenkov, suspected of organizing the killing, to be returned to the prosecutor's office.
"It is extremely important for the judicial proceedings to be open and routine. We are asking you to order the termination of the plea bargain and return the case to the prosecutor's office and combine it with the principal criminal case," Anna Stavitskaya, a lawyer for the Politkovskaya family, said at the Moscow City Court after it started hearing the case against Pavlyuchenkov on Wednesday.
The family asked the court to disregard Pavlyuchenkov's plea bargain with the investigation since they believe he did not comply with its terms and conditions, she said.
"We insist on the impossibility of considering the case in a special procedure. He did not comply with the plea bargain's terms and conditions, as he did not name the person who ordered the killing and did not disclose his role in the crime," Stavitskaya said.
