Russian ice hockey team beats Finland, wins Channel One Cup

The Russian ice hockey team has beaten Finland 3-1 (0-0, 2-1, 1-0) in the Channel One Cup finals and become the champion.

The scorers were: Vadim Shipachev, Yevgeny Malkin (a power play goal) and Ilya Kovalchuk of Russia and Mikko Maenpaa (a power play goal) of Finland. Kovalchuk and Antti Pilstrem were the match's best players. Former Soviet ice hockey team captain, twice Olympic champion and six-time world champion Boris Mayorov presented the prizes.

Coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov's team won three victories in Moscow: it beat Sweden (5-1) and the Czech Republic (6-0).
