EU views planned Russian ban on children's adoption by Americans as discriminatory

A Russian bill that proposes banning all adoptions of children from Russia by U.S. citizens discriminates against children and violates their rights, European Parliament member Kristiina Ojuland told Interfax.

This Russian document discriminates against children's rights and limits their opportunities to develop properly, she said, describing the bill as a totally incorrect political reaction.

Is Russia incapable of offering a more serious response to the Magnitsky Act than using children who are unable to protect themselves as a bargaining chip? Ojuland said.

It is a very undesirable approach, she said.
