Russia on Friday delivered a batch of humanitarian aid to the population of the Gaza Strip, the Foreign Ministry has announced.
"Under a decision of the Russian government, on December 21 an airplane from the Russian Emergency Situations' Ministry delivered to el-Arish, Egypt, a batch of humanitarian aid to the population of the Gaza Strip: tents, blankets, food [together weighting about 42 tonnes]. The cargo was transferred to representatives of the Egyptian and Palestinian Red Crescent societies for subsequent delivery to Gaza via Rafah checkpoint," a report posted on the ministry Web site says.
"In this way Russia responded to a corresponding call of the Palestinian leadership and specialized agencies of the Untied Nations, namely the World Health Organization, given the grave humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip which further deteriorated as a result of the November 14-21 military operation of the Israeli army," the ministry noted.
Moscow also expressed intensions to continue rendering necessary and multifaceted assistance to improve the living conditions of ordinary Palestinians, the socio-economic situation in all Palestinians territories - the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and in the Gaza Strip.
