A Syrian delegation led by Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Muqdad arrived in Russia to hold negotiations at the Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
The members of the Syrian delegation entered the Foreign Ministry building on Thursday morning.
The Lebanese newspaper Daily Star reported earlier that Muqdad had left Beirut for Moscow to hold negotiations regarding UN and Arab League Envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi's idea on settling the conflict in Syria.
The pan-Arab newspaper Azzaman said with reference to Lebanese diplomatic sources that Muqdad is visiting Moscow to receive detailed explanations and guarantees regarding Brahimi's initiative. It said the Syrian delegation members did not make any statements before leaving Lebanon.
A high-ranking Lebanese government official close to Damascus said the Syrian leadership was contented with the negotiations with Brahimi, and Muqdad was sent to Moscow to receive advice regarding a possible agreement with the opposition forces.
The Syrian government is visibly inspired now, the Lebanese official said.
