Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a resolution that confirms the goals and indicators of a federal program aimed at improving fire safety in the country over the period up to 2017.
The document also names Russian regions entitled to subsidies as part of this program and sets the rules for providing and distributing these subsidies, the government's press service said.
Modern-day tendencies of economic integration between Russia and European countries, Russia's entry into the World Trade Organization and other initiatives for promoting international cooperation stand behind the need to draft uniform legal and technical regulations in fire safety.
The program takes account of major upcoming international sporting events to be hosted by Russia, such as the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, accompanied by massive construction projects and the presence and movement of large numbers of people.
Thirty-seven new multifunctional fire stations will be built and another 136 fire stations will be renovated in 58 Russian regions as part of this program.
