Anastasia Kuznetsova, a Russian model who has modelled for designers such as Max Azria, Louis Vuitton, Fendi and Valentino believes that curvy Indian models could set a new trend on the modelling ramp.
“I like it when a model is in good shape – not too thin, not too big. India can be a trendsetter for this in the international market,” Kuznetsova told IANS in an interview.
Kuznetsova will be taking part in the Lakme Fashion Week’s Winter Festive Show which will be held in Mumbai from August 23. She told the news agency that she loves India for its nature, food and the weather. “I love to work where I feel happy. All models go to places like Japan, China, and Singapore but why not India,” Kuznetsova told the news agency in an interview, which was carried by Business Standard. “I want to do Lakme to see what the fashion scene is in India, what people are wearing. I want to see it from inside and hopefully connect Indian fashion with the international fashion market.”
The model was first attracted to India on account of yoga, according to the IANS report. “I never thought about India until I started doing yoga. When I started learning more about yoga, I started to know more about India and Tibet,” the model, who now lives in New York, told the news agency. “One day my yoga teacher invited me to come with her and the other pupils to Kerala for yoga and Ayurveda…and I said, ‘Yes! why not!”
Kuznetsova vividly described her passion for India in the interview. “When I saw India with my eyes, I fell in love with it.” She also told the news agency that she enjoys watching the Mumbai sunset at its most famous public space. “In May, I flew from London to Mumbai. When I got off the plane, I thought, ‘What am I doing here in this city?’ But a day later, when I saw sunset at the Marine Drive, I was happy and excited to work for fashion and films in this city,” Kuznetsova told IANS, while also expressing her passion for Bollywood dance.
The Lakme Fashion Week is a bi-annual fashion event that takes place in India’s financial capital and is considered a premier fashion event in the country. Its Summer-Resort show takes place in February whiles the Winter-Festive in August. The event, which began in 1999, is run by the Fashion Design Council of India.
